I like mine and It works as described
I received a unit that did not work but they sent me a new one right away and it worked very well. Be aware that the receiver loses and recovers reception when the xmitter floats in and out of line sight as the signal is blocked (as described in their description). The unit is easily sucked into the skimmer. I solved this by gluing 3/4" x 8" - 10" schedule 40 plastic pipe into the sensor opening (drill several holes new the attachment end so water fills the pipe). That keeps it out of the skimmer without the need to tether. I used AA alkaline batteries but plan to use rechargeable when they need replacement. The solar is suppose to do the charging as well as reduce battery use. I have only had my unit in the water for 2 weeks so I don't know how long batteries last yet. And No the unit does not work with out batteries, not even in the daylight.

Signal strength too weak
Digital thermostat works fine, the display is a cheap LCD screen . Signal fails after ten feet and won’t reconnect . Must take batteries out of both transmitter and receiver to reacquire signal and won’t work thru window so does NOT work inside . FAIL

Needs rechargeables for solar
It reads about 4f lower than the mercury one it's replacing and my IR thermometer. It needs a set of expensive rechargeable batteries to use the solar function (not included), you can disable it and use a pair of AA batteries.Range is poor can not get signal 75f away. All in all inaccurate and unable to actual get a stable wireless signal makes this a poor performer.Long term I have doubts about how waterproof this thing is, the gasket does not look to be of any particularly high quality and it's got a pair of wires that are getting twisted every time you change batteries or try and empty the thing.

used for 3 months, in large lake. good value for money.
Purchased in June via amazon. Worked right away as described. Placed at Moosehead lake where it got hit by waves, changes of temperature from J?une till the end of September when we closed down the camp. The display was easy to read at the water next to the device of from the hammock reading the remote display. As the remote would be taken indoors each night, the signal would be disconnected (until we would bring it back the next morning, for 12 hour at times ) but would be reacquired as soon as within range without any intervention on my part.if it works next year would be awesome, but the truth is that it lasted over 90 days for like less than 30 bucks. so it comes to at about a dime per day. so i think i great value for the money

This is my second one of these - it shows an incorrect temperature consistently
I purchased this as a replacement for an identical or nearly-identical one I have had for 2-3 years, which died a natural death of old age--I was very happy with that one. This one displays an incorrect temperature - VERY incorrect (for example, it showed my pool at 126 degrees (I took my heat gun out and the actual temperature was 84). I don't know if this is an inherent flaw, or if I just got a defective item--make your own judgments about that.

accuracy is off, and setup is hard
I like the small design, but Accuracy seems just a big miss. temperature of indoor and outdoor when the two units are next to each other is different by about a degree - the tenths in the indicator is silly if the accuracy is as specified. The major bit of disapproval is the claim of good water resistance in the advertising. But on the very first page of the instruction Manual (which apparently is very hard to follow) it says "the remote sensor is designed to be rain-proof, it still must be always put in a dry place avoiding direct rainfall." The reason I purchased this is to place the remote on the outside of my trailer and there is no place that is both exposed to sense the temperature, and avoiding direct rainfall or splash from traveling.

Remote Pool Temp
This pool sensor has worked well all year, the only issue I've had with the base unit is that its lettering has faded over the summer and even after changing out the batteries, it's hard to read.

Lasted about a month
Seems to not be completely water tight. Water got in and corroded the inside. Lasted about a month. Definitely will not recommend.
