Panasonic KV-S1045C Document Scanner,White

We had two of this exact scanner in the office already. So, when it was time to add a third it was a no brainer. I looked for the exact model that we had and this was the most recent version of it. Although you do need to do frequent cleaning, this scanner has worked like a champ and i believe i am up to 50,000 scans on mine. I still think it is a little pricey but i guess you get what you pay for. A dependable and solid scanner by a company that has been around for ages.

This scanner is awful. It was 3 times the price of our old scanner (Panasonic-scaled down version). I scan 2-6 page expenditure invoices in black and white with little or no issues. But our office scans (a mere) 10 documents (on average) a week that are 50-100 pages in length, containing a mix of color and b & w pages, duplex & single format. There are nice settings on the interface that tell the machine to 'autodetect' all of this. But they do NOT work! The machine freezes up 100% of the time on documents containing both b & w and color pages - even with the 'autodetect color' setting used. It's not a true document jam, it's the software interface, which is very poorly designed. The machine and computer freeze up and to get them to work again we have to reboot the both (clears the file error message(s)) - usually only to have it happen again the next attempt to scan that same document. Consequently, the IT guy is constantly in our office trying to get the thing to work.The OS on the computer is Windows XP for businesses. Not sure if that is the issue, but it shouldn't be, if it is!The seller of the machine refuses to take it back for replacement, refund or exchange. They are full of all sorts of ideas to 'jury-rig' the software so that the color pages of the documents don't 'choke' it. Their suggestion was to scan everything on 'color' setting which takes up TONS more hard drive space because the file created is HUGE. Shouldn't have to do that with a machine we purchased for $4600 a year ago. Now that is not even working. IT is back again. :-(We've had problems from the start. And Panasonic refused to honor the product warranty because the seller sold a "NEW" machine to us (it had never been used), but, they are a document control control company who had the machine in their inventory for 2 years before we purchased it from them 'new'. We sent it in to be looked at on ImageTek's dime, but it came back to us with nothing changed, replaced or different. It's still mis-behaving and creating hours of frustration! DON"T BUY IT!!!

After a brief mistake regarding the number ordered, one was sent next day air to make up for the error. Seller was very quick to respond and the scanners are brand new and excellent workers! We scan several thousand pages a day and it works like a champ and very fast

Works very well. Came recommended from another userHad to download a driver to new Windows-7 H P computer as the driver for the scanner is a bit dated and is not included in the drivers disc packaged with the scanner.

Required for small office works great, heavy & expensive!

I have used this machine every work day for the last 2 years and I love it. My office had been using it for another year before I began. I have been interested in purchasing one for my home based on the success at my office. I scan a multitude of documents from postcard size to 11 x 17. The only times it has pulled anything through with an issue has been receipt paper or very thin paper. In those cases the item has to be taped down to another paper. It scans color, b/w, or a combination of both as well as single sided and/or duplex. When something is scanned with a post-it note attached or as a 3-part form, the scanner will stop and ask if you would like to continue.During tax season, my company sends out hundreds of tax returns for other companies. The returns are at least 8 pages and can be up to 60. On average I will scan over 1,000 pages per weekday for 2 months. This scanner handles it wonderfully and quickly. It allows you to set up saved job settings (b/w, color, duplex, single sided, any size, auto crop, etc.) for specific jobs you handle a certain way each time. It also allows you to add additional pages to a scan before saving. If you have accidentally scanned double sided, you can select and delete those extra pages in the same way you would in acrobat with a multi-page pdf. The only thing that takes time is after you have scanned and have told it to save. Based on the size of the document it can be a couple seconds or even a minute for a very large file.I believe it asks you to clean the rollers every 20,000 pages (ours came with a simple cleaning kit which is very easy to use). I will say that we have often scanned pages with a staple or paper clip still attached. In this case it still works, but we believe it may have damaged one of the rollers that pull the pages through. Last month we ordered and installed a new roller kit ($250) so I would recommend making certain there are no metal parts being scanned.The windows based machine, to which the scanner is connected, is operating Windows 7 and the scanning software seems compatible with no major issues. I was slightly taken aback by the failure of the other reviewer's machine and thought I should add our success. Hopefully this information helps.
